earthworker
I've been an earthworker since birth; we all have. I guess somewhere along the way I just decided I wanted to work with the earth in my hands more than some people. Be it landscape architecture, gardening, painting, treehouse building, nest building, festival builds, etc, I'm certain that a life without hard work, outdoors, using my own two hands would slowly wear me down to an unhappy end. It's something I crave. To create art from physical labor and matter and to view the creation upon completion with a sense of well earned accomplishment. And to be outside as often as possible.
O2 TREEHOUSE
In 2017, I began work with Bay Area treehouse builder Dustin Feider at O2 Treehouse. My time with O2 began during the 2017 Global Eclipse Gathering in Big Summit Prairie, Oregon - a giant transformational music, art and culture gathering attended and built by some of the world's most creative and groundbreaking builders and artists. O2 teamed up with the Furtherrr Artist Collective and built an absolutely psychedelic fantasy treetop neverland of live art and music. Following that build, I've tagged in every so often on builds with O2 around the greater Bay Area - building, climbing, shooting photography and conceptualizing and structuring treehouse rental properties. One of our newest rentals, The Pinecone Treehouse in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is steadily on it's way to becoming one of the premiere and most unique Air BnB rentals available.
SPIRIT NEST CREATIONS BY JAYSON FANN
In 2015, following an invite from my then bandmate and close friend Jayson Fann, I headed out to the California Coast - namely Big Sur - to work with Jayson on some of his creations - the world famous Spirit Nest. I had done a fair bit of treework in my past and was excited to see what this artistic build was all about. Working with Jayson Fann, we sourced Eucalyptus (an 'invasive' species that many land owners in California are looking to remove or trim for fire safety), harvested the branches, removed all foliage and through an intuitive labor of love pieced the limbs together in the form of the giant human nest you see here. Some of the nests I have built with Jayson are located in Big Sur, California (on both private property and the Treebones Resort), on the peak of Aspen Mountain and on the river at the Basalt Regional Library in Colorado and at the University of Santa Cruz Arboretum in California, among other places.
